The platform that teaches you how to think, not what to think

Duologue is a learning platform built on guided dialogue. It will help you develop critical thinking and reasoning skills, and engage with knowledge in ways that work for you.

Personalised learning that helps you think for yourself

Duologue doesn't give you answers. It helps you find them through dialogue that adapts to how you think, where you get stuck and what you need next.

  • Sharpen how you think. Guided dialogue that challenges you to reason and reflect, not just recall.
  • Available 24/7, in multiple languages. Voice-to-text under development. No question off limits, a pace that works for you.
  • Your conversations stay yours. Nothing you discuss is shared with lecturers or other learners.

A tool that supports better, deeper teaching and learning

Built with educators, not imposed on them. Helping you focus on the human skills that matter: discussion, mentorship, reflection, feedback that genuinely shapes thinking.

  • Learners arrive better prepared. Duologue builds understanding before they reach you, so seminars go further and deeper.
  • Sight of progress, not surveillance. Cohort-level insight without access to individual conversations.
  • Not an extra burden. Works within your existing Virtual Learning Environment and SSO. Co-designed with academic partners.

Build foundational capabilities across your institution

Duologue develops the problem-solving skills your learners need: rigorous, measurable, personalised to complement every discipline.

  • Critical and computational thinking at scale. Reasoning skills embedded across disciplines, not bolted on as an extra.
  • One platform, every learner. Adapts to each learner's level, pace, and discipline without a bespoke build per department.
  • Easy to implement. GDPR compliant, AWS EU hosted, SSO/Virtual Learning Environment integration from day one. Pilot available now.

The platform

The platform that asks, rather than tells

Duologue is built on guided dialogue. Rather than giving you ready-made answers, it prompts reflection, offers tailored explanations, and helps you apply ideas to your own discipline and experience. It sharpens the way you reason, question, and decide — building capabilities that outlast any tool or trend.

Chat interface with a message saying 'Strengthening skills' and progress of 3 out of 5 tasks completed, followed by feedback: 'Well done! The NHS's not-for-profit nature and government association make it a credible source. Minimal corruption adds to its trustworthiness.' Below is a prompt: 'Let's apply that thinking: How would you handle health claims from an unfamiliar website?' There is a text input box labeled 'Type here to talk...' with a Toolkit dropdown and a blue send arrow button.
The collective

Built by the people who think hardest about education

Duologue is the product of a founding collective — City St George's, Sage Publishing, Raspberry Pi Foundation, Wolfram, and Bond & Coyne — with pedagogical design led by Dr Tom Chatfield, Oxford-educated philosopher, BBC broadcaster, and author of ten internationally translated books on critical thinking and digital culture. The platform is the output of their shared intellectual work.

The mission

Developing the thinking skills the world needs most

Critical thinking, AI literacy and ethics, and computational thinking — these are the foundational capabilities that matter across every discipline and career path. Duologue exists to develop them in a way that is rigorous, personalised, and built for the long term. Not tied to current jargon. Built around timeless human needs.

Questions? We’re glad you asked.

What is Duologue?

A learning platform built on guided dialogue, designed to develop critical thinking, reasoning, and the confidence to engage with knowledge independently. It asks questions rather than giving answers, adapting to each learner's level and pace.

Who is it for?

Duologue is for universities and education institutions, publishers and content owners, and the staff and students within them. It reaches learners through institutional partnerships, so if your university uses Duologue, you can access it through your existing login.

Is it a replacement for lectures or seminars?

No, it's a complement to them. Duologue helps students consolidate understanding, prepare for discussions, and work through concepts independently. Human instruction, peer discussion, and primary sources remain essential.

Will it write my essays or do my assessments?

No. Duologue is designed for learning, not content generation. It won't produce essays or bypass academic integrity. If your institution has specific policies on technology use in assessment, those still apply.

How does it handle privacy?

Your conversations are confidential, never shared with lecturers or other students. Data is held on AWS EU infrastructure, retained for 13 months after your last activity, then deleted or anonymised.

How do I get access?

Through your institution. Duologue integrates with your existing Virtual Learning Environment and SSO, no separate account needed. If your institution isn't using Duologue yet, get in touch and we'll take it from there.
